Online and internet marketing is a competitive area to become involved in. It is not impossible, as many would lead you to believe, but it is extremely competitive. When I chose this field in 2006 I knew that I could not achieve the level of success I was looking for if I tried to do it alone. My solution was to seek out the help of mentors - people who were already succeeding with what I wanted to do. I wanted to build an online empire.

This was not as easy as I originally thought it would be. There were hundreds of people offering eBooks, telecourses, physical books and CDs, and I was not familiar with any of them. I began to sign up to be on their lists so that I could see whose ideas and information resonated with what I pictured my business to be. This was an important first step that I recommend to anyone who is interested in becoming an internet marketer or developing any business on the internet. Trust your instincts and feelings. If it does not feel right to you, just unsubscribe from that person's list. There are many more to choose from.

I finally found several people that I could relate to. I spent the next three or four months listening to and reading their information. I began to purchases small items, such as eBooks or recordings, and finally decided to take the plunge and join a one year mentor program. For me, it was much too soon for me to be in a fast paced program, and I also had some health issues, but I did get enough out of that program to know I was ready to learn from other people on a regular basis.

This lead to me learning exactly what I was going to need to do, in order to achieve success on the internet. I chose a niche, eBook writing and marketing, and began to write articles and hold teleseminars, and created my first product. I had taken the necessary steps to lay a solid foundation for my online business. During this time I had several people who I could turn to for advice. They were there for me, at least through email, when I was stuck on one particular part of the process. If it had not been for them, I would not have been able to move on to the next step.

I now consider myself to be an online writing and technology mentor. I give my students even more time and attention than I received. Many of them are new to internet marketing - newbies - and some have been online for a year or so but have not made any money. I love the opportunity and challenge of helping them to move forward in a direction that feels right to them and will earn them money to build their own online empire.
