When dealing with a small bathroom and you have no room to expand, it is time to use some tricks to make the room look bigger. Almost all of the ideas or "tricks" below can be accomplished without having to do any major remodeling or demo.

1. Brighten Up the Walls
When dealing with a small bathroom or any room for that matter, one of the easiest ways to make it look larger is by using light and bright colors. Darker colors can make even the largest rooms seem smaller.

2. Change up the Flooring
Just like light colors on the walls, light colors on the flooring of the small bathroom will help make the bathroom appear roomier and more open. Lighter color floors will help reflect the light and give the impression of an open and airy space.

3. Change up the vanity
The vanity is usually the biggest object in a bathroom, other than the shower or tub. Rather than keeping that big and bulky vanity, why not replace it with a small vanity or pedestal sink? By reducing the size of the vanity, you will free up additional wall space, giving the illusion of a larger room.

4. Bring in More Light
Adding additional lighting in a small bathroom can make a world of difference in the way the space in the bathroom is perceived. Consider adding additional light fixtures or using higher wattage bulbs, as appropriate. While it may not always be possible, if you can add a window or skylight that can bring in natural light, you will be amszed at how much bigger your bathroom looks. By making the bathroom brighter and more inviting, it seems that the space has opened up and the walls are farther apart.

5. Move Your Storage Outside the Bathroom
By simply moving all of the toiletries and miscellaneous items (hamper, linen closet, etc), it is create additional space and help declutter the room. Some people choose to place a small storage cabinet in their hallway near the bathroom as a place to put all of the things that they would normally keep in their bathrooms. Extra supplies and paper products can even be stored in the pantry.

6. When All Else Fails, Add Mirrors
Placing additional mirrors in the bathroom will help to capture all of the available light and reflect it back into the room to make it brighter. Adding extra mirrors to the room will also add depth to the room, as the mirrors reflect each other and make the walls appear farther away.

By making these small changes to your small bathroom, you can create the illusion that your bathroom is larger than it really is. Sometimes you just have to work with what you have and make the best of it.
