For many of us there is nothing in our life that is more important than our family. Our children, if we have them, are usually always at the top of the list, at least they should be for any parent. Then there are also husbands or wives, parents, and siblings. All of them play an important role in our life normally and we do not know what we would do without them. The flip side of that is sometimes we do not know what to do with them either. When a person who really values their family has problems with one or more members, it can be some of the most trying times that we ever have to go through.

Sometimes there will be situations that come up with family members that we are just not prepared to deal with. It does not really matter what the situation is because it can cover such a wide range of things. When we are faced with an issue involving a loved one and we have no idea how to handle it, it can unsettle everyone involved. In many cases it will be that one family member is always the one expected to help fix the problems that arise for everyone else. That member is considered the strong one for some reason and every other family member will go to them when they have a crisis.

This can be a difficult position to be in when you already have problems of your own. When you have children, we expect to have to always be there for them no matter what, but when you are raising your own family and have to deal with parents or siblings issues too, it can be an extremely stressful situation. When you are the one who is always expected to give and keep on giving, whether it be financially or emotionally, it can cause unbearable stress.

Sometimes we just have to know where to draw the line with family members that are not our children and sometimes the line has to be drawn for our children as well. When we give and give and especially when we get nothing in return, it might be time to put your self first for a change and let them fend for themselves. Many times when we are continuously there to fix problems for everyone else, it decreases the quality of our own life and adds a stress load that we can not bear after a while.
