No need to shun your hobby but look for options to reduce cost. One option to look for used rifles, which can be quite a bargain if done the right way.

A new rifle can cost you upwards of say $700 and it can up to $3000 generally. To slash this cost you need to find a dealer that carries used rifles. Make sure that dealer has the guarantee of the seller that the rifle has been put to gentle use. Most of the dealers will let you inspect the rifle before you buy it.

Once you are ready to get a used rifle, the make sure to check a few basic things which will tell you whether you are buying a good used rifle or a bad one. The first thing to check is the area around the firing pin. Remove the bolt and the check the area around the rifle bolt face. The area around the firing pin if eroded will tell you that the rifle has not been handled properly. Do not buy this rifle.

Another aspect to check is that the bolt is working fine. This, you can check by pulling it backward and slamming it forward really hard. The firing pin in a good rifle will never go off. Make sure that the grooves in the barrel are sharp and cut absolutely clean. There should be no rust in the guns bore.

You can check the guns online but the process to acquire the guns online is a bit lengthy and the entire process is mandate by law. The gun must be first shipped to a Federal Firearms License holder, who will inspect the gun and then release it to you. The FFL holder will charge small fees from you for his services.
