A penny saved is a penny earned. Maybe it was Ben Franklin who said that or perhaps it was some other wise gentleman who could never imagine that a penny would be of so little value in the years to come. Actually, it does still have value it is just that it takes so many of them to amount to anything at all. For those who were born into money it can be a real stretch of the imagination to conjure up an image of having to dig into the sofa cushions or the car seats to see if you can scratch up a few bucks in loose change to get a little gasoline.
For those who grew up in a little more restricted money environment, this procedure might not have been nothing far fetched at all. If and when you found that change hidden away or lost somewhere, gratitude was usually what first came to mind. You never know when a little change might just come in handy. Many people make a conscious effort to save all of their change in a glass jar somewhere in hopes that one day it will amount to enough to buy something nice or help out in an emergency of some kind.
We could actually have more money to accumulate just from saving our change than we thought. If you saved all of your loose change for a couple of years without touching it, when a crisis did come up, you might have enough in the jar to keep from having to take out a check advance or payday loan to cover some need. It might seem a little silly to some people, but others know just what it is to be in a financial pinch and would be grateful to have an extra hundred bucks to have access to.
There is even one banking corporation in particular now that will use the change from purchases made with your check card and transfer it to your savings account. Now this is a really novel idea. Not only are all your purchases rounded to the nearest dollar on your bank statement, but the change deposited into your savings account instead of an old jar somewhere can actually earn you interest as you save it. Talk about an easy way to get even your loose change to work to your financial advantage. So, saving change this way might end up being more profitable than you think.
